The following line from a movie happened to board my train of thought sometime today:
Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust
Take it out and use it, else it’s going to rust
Or words to that effect which rhyme similarly.
For a long time I thought it was Jack Nicholson who said that in Highlander 2. Google disabused me of my notions by informing me that it was Michael Ironside, and not Jack Nicholson who acted in that eminently forgettable movie. Perhaps the only good thing about Highlander 2 was that line, corny though it was.
I won’t complain much about that line – in fact, I positively like it. I was one of the resident joke merchants at college, and I came up with a lovely one involving participants clad in mitres, fishnet and the Ashes to Ashes line as the punchline.
How in the name of all that’s lovely did that line come to me today? As is my wont to say, my mind is a sewer with plenty of garbage floating around in it. Earlier today, I was stricken by the feeling that my brains were rusting away thanks to disuse, and the next thing I knew, I was thinking of Jack Nicholson (Okay, Michael Ironside), Christopher Lambert as Colin McLeod, Sean Connery and a crappy line from a crappier movie.
Sigh. It looks like my brains really need a coat of anti-rust paint.

Of late, people have been having trouble writing comments on my blog. Phoenix emailed me to say that his comments haven’t been reaching me. Fair enough, they’re neither in the spam queue, nor in the moderation queue. And he was using the right blog :)
I tried a small experiment by getting one of my other friends to post a comment on the blog, and it worked. So now I’m confused!
So if you, gentle reader, are having trouble posting comments on my blog, please do send me an email with your comments in it, and I’ll make sure the comments appear on the blog. Also please tell me exactly what you did, so that I can make sure that the bug is indeed reproducible ;), and dash off an email to the WordPress folks.

A long while ago, when I was still green behind the years and was living in the Institute with Tree Lined Avenues, I was gifted one of those little plastic plaques with a pithy message written on it.
It read thus:
If you love something, set it free;
If it comes back, it is yours.
If it does not, it never was.
